Mendelssohn’s Manor was originally built in 1880 in East Brisbane. Built specifically for an English Doctor and his family of wife and two children. After the war and the depression set in, the house was divided into four flats and all bullnose balconies were separated and enclosed for extra room in each apartment on the upper level which remained until 1995.

In 1995, the house was purchased by Mr Neil Mendelson and was split in half and transported to its current address here in Thornlands before it was to be considered to be heritage listed.

Mendelssohn’s Manor was the last grand Queenslander allowed to be transported anywhere within the vicinity of Brisbane. In order to transport the two halves, street signs and powerlines had to be temporarily removed The house has since been meticulously restored to its former glory by the proud owners the Mendelsons.
